Facultad de Ingeniería será sede de IV Conferencia LACNEM 2012

La IV Latinoamericana de Medios Audiovisuales en Red se realizará los días 18 y 19 de octubre en el campus República.

En el contexto de la Semana de la Facultad de Ingeniería, la Escuela de Informática de la Universidad Andrés Bello realizará la IV Conferencia Latinoamericana de Medios Audiovisuales en Red LACNEM 2012.

La actividad pretende ser una instancia de difusión de los avances científicos en las áreas de recuperación de información desde múltiples fuentes, aprendizaje automático, análisis de información semántica, visión artificial y, seguridad de la Información, entre otros.

El Seminario está dirigido a investigadores nacionales e internacionales, académicos y estudiantes de la U. Andrés Bello y externos, además de empresas proveedoras y consumidoras de TI.

Sergio Velastin

Sergio is the Director of the university’s Digital Imaging Research Centre, one of the biggest groups of its type in the UK and Europe. Staff here conduct research into the processing of images and video for a range of applications including visual surveillance (CCTV), medical imaging and intelligent spaces.

In most applications it is desirable to demonstrate results in real-time – Sergio therefore has a special interest in embedded systems especially for the processing, transmission and display of digital media.

Sergio’s Faculty recently launched a new MSc course on Embedded Systems, involving close consultation with industrial partners such as NXP Semiconductors, BAe Systems, BT and Kane Computing.

Aggelos K. Katsaggelos:

Aggelos K. Katsaggelos received the Diploma degree in electrical and mechanical engineering from the Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki, Thessaloniki, Greece, in 1979 and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees both in electrical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, Georgia, in 1981 and 1985, respectively.

Ebroul Izquierdo:

Ebroul Izquierdo, PhD, MSc, CEng, FIET, SMIEEE, MBMVA, is Chair of Multimedia and Computer Vision and head of the Multimedia and Vision Group in the school of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science at Queen Mary, University of London. For his thesis on the numerical approximation of algebraic-differential equations, he received the Dr. Rerum Naturalium (PhD) from the Humboldt University, Berlin, Germany.

He has been a senior researcher at the University of Essex.
